Questions for reflection

There are many times that we ask people questions and we expect to get answers. We, human being, like to find out how good or bad others are? Sadly, there are not many times we ask ourselves. Let's take sometime to answer these questions. Enjoy !

1- What am I grateful for today?
2- Is there anything/anybody I have taken for grated in my life?
3- Are there any people I should thank, today?
4- In what way do I think my country need to change?
5- What kind of change do I need for myself, so that I can be part of solution, not problem?
6- What are the main motivations/force of my life?
7- How can I use my energies/talent/skills for others, for my country, and for the world?
8- What promises have I made in the past? How well have I keep them?
9- Have I ever let other down, in what way?
10- Is there any relationship I need to re-build? How? When ?

  1. Hi Nana,

I'm amazed by the breadth and depth of your questions. These are definitely topics that we should attempt to tackle to not only improve ourself but people around us.

I'm sad and hopeful. I'm sad because not many people, especially our so-called leaders, make a slight attempt to address any of these questions ( Otherwise we would have a better country ) I'm happy and hopeful because now I know there are virtuous people like you who hopefully will spread the seed and let us live the dream in the near future.

Now back from the brief digression... I think that your question #6 is the most important one, for me anyway. I'm not saying that the rest is not important, but my previous attempt to answer question #6 led to the remaining ones.

Are there answers to question #6? It depends on whom the question is addressed to. Personally, I believe that there is only one and it is deceptively simple...

  2. Hey, friend. I am not that good actually. Not all these questions came from me. I got some of these questions from my trip to Taiwan last month (during the conference). These questions are really depend on individual. I don't think there is common answer to any of those because of the fact that people are all difference. To be honest, the question number 6 was also hard for me to answer. When I got this question for the first time, I answered "appreciation from other" is my motivation. I answer it this way because i noticed that every time people appreciate me (just like u do)I seem to gain more energy. However, after a while, I think my motivation is "my country". Having said My country, I includes of course my family in that too. You know I just got another part time job at FM 106.5 from Monday to Friday, 09pm - 10pm. I go to work after my class in the evening. I asked myself why do I have to work that hard? and the answer was because I can make best used of myself to help those women (or man) who are having program with their life and need someone to talk to. Last night program was my first day, and I feel really good by listening to other's people story and able to support them emotionally.

Seeing other Cambodian facing program in their life, seeing how Cambodia is corrupted, seeing how slow it developed, are strongly motivate me to work harder and harder. I always want to make best used of my energy for them.

You know working this part time after school, I make myself happy, I make caller feel better, I make my mum and dad be proud of themselves for having this smart daughter,... what else can make me feel better than this? These are my motivation and it bring me energy.

I can write much longer than this, but let me stop here. Will see you comment back. Have a nice day.

  4. Hi Nana,

Raising those questions by yourself or not is not important. What important is that you are aware of them and make attempts to find answers. For that reason, I'm still amazed.

Of course, we are always flattered and feel good knowing that we are genuinely appreciated by others. This is universal truth, and even more so for our culture.

Now just for the sake of argument, I don't think any of the motivations that you listed (country, family...etc) are real motivations. Don't get me wrong, these are commendable gestures, but they are just means to your true motivation. Whatever that it, you'll know one day.

Every mom and dad should be proud having a daughter like you. That is priceless. It's the ultimate gift for your parents. My thought is that you are the exception, not the norm in Cambodia. Am I wrong? If I am, I would like to hear the reasons. I've traveled all over in Cambodia and gave up hope until I met you. I'm not blaming anybody since I completely understand that in a poor country like ours, people have no choice but to put themselves in front of others.

    Later..

  5. Dear Proskmeng

Your thought is that I am the exception, not the norm in Cambodia, Are you right?

I actually don't know what to answer. Maybe because I don't really get the answer. But just to clarify that I am totally normal like other people. I born, live, and educated here in Cambodia. i am like others too, sometime selfish, sometime happy, sometime sad,... However, I might looked a bit different then other young people. But well everyone is special.
